Aa 128       Beat the Application Deadline!

Astra is very much open for applications for teacher training from September 2024, but the final deadline for applications of 30 June is fast approaching.

'It's important applicants understand that starting teacher training can be quite complex,' says Sue Lewis, Astra's Recruitment Manager. 'There are background checks to be completed, references to be taken up and health checks as well. Applicants do not always realise that this process can take several weeks and must be done before trainees are allowed to start to teaching.'

For anyone hoping to start teacher training this September, the message is clear: it's not too late yet, but apply soon. Places are filling up quickly, especially for Modern Foreign Languages.

There are many different ways of becoming a teacher - see our Routes into Teaching page.  Astra currently offers QTS with PGCE courses in general primary and all main secondary subjects, as well as a number of specialist courses such as Dance and Drama. Funding for all routes is available via the Student Loans Company as well as generous tax free bursaries in many secondary shortage subjects - these can vary from £10,000 in Music and English to almost £30,000 in Maths, Languages and Science.

There are increasingly flexible routes into teaching, and Astra is able to offer part time routes both in primary and a large number of secondary subjects, which can make teaching more feasible for those with other commitments.

Partnered with Bath Spa University, judged Outstanding by Ofsted,  Astra is a partnership of over sixty local schools in Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas. Each year, approximately fifty to sixty teachers train with Astra in schools of all kinds, primary, secondary and special.
