The Astra vision for teaching

Aa 104

Astra SCITT (School-Centred Initial Teacher Training) provides outstanding learning opportunities for all, through education, training and action research.

Our vision is simple: excellence in teacher training. We are committed to our values of collaboration, support and innovation. We aim to do everything with integrity.

We work with over 60 schools and other organisations across Buckinghamshire and beyond.

Our curriculum places great focus on developing trainees' professional knowledge, skills and values. We develop trainees as reflective practitioners, encouraging new entrants to teaching to think critically, draw upon the best available research evidence and make informed professional judgements. At the same time, we see our training as enormously practical and great emphasis is placed on school based learning, with trainees working closely with a mentor and other school based professionals to hone their classroom skills.

Partnering with Bath Spa University, we provide both QTS and PGCE training for new entrants in local primary, secondary and special schools, including the full range of secondary subjects. While most trainees study full time, each year a small number pursue part time training. We are able to offer a variety of different routes, including bursary-led, unsalaried, salaried and postgraduate apprenticeships as well as and Assessment Only routes.

This full suite of training courses means that whatever your situation, we can offer you a wide choice of routes into teaching.
